Spring Final Session.

And so ... it ends.


Today was the final session of GAETI 2017.

Today we caught up with each other.  Shared some of what we've picked up since the fall. 

Found out about some free sites offering quiz-taking software.  (Quizziz and Everfi)

Also found out about some blogs (Cult of Pedagogy)

Apparently, I can get Google Certified and that could present some opportunities as well as resume' fodder.

Lunch was awesome and we got so much stuff that I was hardly able to carry it all in one trip to the car.

We also learned about robotics from Jeffrey Coleman of Madison County.

Melissa Adkins of Lamar County taught us about Padlet and Flipgrid.  I had a good time with those, but I think Padlet will be the most useful for my purposes.

It has been a tough year.  I am not sure what's going to happen going forward.  But I feel more equipped now to deal with it.  I'm more able to analyze my situation now and think a little more clearly.

I am sad that this chapter is over.  It has been a wonderful experience that I hope I can do a better job of implementing into my career.  It's just been so hard lately (past 2.5 years??) with all of the changes and ups and downs and issues and such.  I just want to feel comfortable at work again and I don't know that I ever will. And maybe that's a good thing.

We began with a presentation about iPad apps that can be of use in the classroom. Then we made out own website story using Adobe Spark: https://spark.adobe.com/page/kj2yyqTGGi3R5/ So over the weekend, my clay pieces were fired.  One came out fine: And it's being glazed: The glaze looks like Pepto-Bismol. My tiles were not so fortunate. This is the sole survivor.  Much like an old star, they exploded.  The brightest flames burn quickest, I suppose.  I still have the concept and I also have the sole survivor: Hopefully, it holds up because this glaze has a very interesting look once it's fired. Day 12: Flat Stanley

So we began the day with a primer on making presentation videos.  I even made one: We then began a Flat Stanley project.  Flat Stanley has come to Mississippi State and we are to make a movie about his adventures.  Stay tuned. Day 1: Orientation, MAGNOLIA and Standards.Oh My!

I'm back, baby! And it feels so good. So today was like a reunion.  Seeing people i've not seen in a while. Reuniting with colleagues and meeting new colleagues. We were oriented for most of the morning.  Toured our facilities, got our parking permits.  It was the first time i'd been in the old laundry building since it was renovated.  It has changed so much since the early 2000s when I was a regular fixture. Anyway, after lunch we went over to the library to get acquainted with MAGNOLIA . I'm pretty sure i'll be able to utilize it effectively.  Especially now that I hyperlinked it to the page that I can revisit! I learned THAT lesson from last time, I tell you what. Then we learned about standards.  I was not aware of this little jewel that can help out with standards as far as technology integration is concerned.
